Wild Wednesday: New Tuition Fee Protests

A few weeks ago, higher education students embarked on a hike in tuition fee protest at 30 Millbank, the Tories' headquarters in central London. Yesterday, thousands of students including secondary school students and some lecturers engaged in tuition fee demonstrations in 'England, Wales and Scotland'.

Thousands gathered in and around Whitehall and Trafalgar Square to protest against the hike in university fees and the planned cutting of the education maintenance allowance (EMA).

Students have also been holding rallies across the country, including in Bristol, Birmingham, Glasgow, Manchester, Cambridge and Brighton.

Some demonstrators burned their placards like a bonfire. Some protestors vandalized a police van, stood on top of it, sat in it and rocked it to and fro like a toy. A police officer’s arm was reportedly broken during the protest and 32 protesters were arrested by the police.

Students based in London have said Wednesday's tuition fee protests were "a tremendous success" and another day of action will be held on November 30.

Edward Woollard, 18, the protester that threw a fire extinguisher from the roof of the Millbank Tower, during the initial protest, pleaded guilty at City of Westminster Magistrates' Court. According to media reports, he will be sentenced at a later date at Southwark Crown Court. “The maximum sentence that can be given for the offence is five years in prison”.

Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday

Rapper Nicki Minaj, 26, launched her debut album Pink Friday last Friday. It had to be launched on a Friday and Minaj’s hair had to be quarter pink for the 'pink week'. Minaj had to 'dress' partly pinkie. As long as a lot of copies are sold it would be worth all the glamour and glitterati.

According to Wikipedia, “In October 2010, Minaj became the first artist to have seven songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart simultaneously”. Lil' Kim is fond of criticising Nicki Minaj. Even local rapper Femcee keys dissed Minaj. Minaj found their utterances highly disturbing and constantly ‘fumbled’ in her response to Keys.

It is Minaj’s time to rock the spotlight. Is Minaj not too soft and vulnerable to comments? Lil’ Kim called Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday a Black Friday aka 'Friday the 13th'. The diss track by Lil’ Kim will soon rock the airwaves. It is h-o-t! Lil’ Kim has never hidden the fact that she disliked Minaj. It is easy to wonder why Minaj has ‘several’ enemies as a successful rapper.

Some internet warriors alleged that Minaj is a lesbian. Jailed rapper Remy Ma denied the wild rumour of her doing something with Minaj. It will be recalled that rumour mongers said Alicia Keys was bisexual some years ago. The rumour was silenced when Keys got married to producer Swizz Beatz and recently gave birth to a baby named Egypt Daoud Dean.

  1. “Edward Woollard, 18, the protester that threw a fire extinguisher from the roof of the Millbank Tower, during the initial protest, pleaded guilty at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court.” The irony is, by the time he gets out, he’ll have to pay the increased student fees. And just say that he even manages to get through uni, his graduate jobs hunt has been made that much harder by what he did. He’ll have a criminal record and let’s face it, graduate applicants get googled. Guess what’s going to come up for his name!Whether or not his sentence was excessive, I just don’t know. I’m not familiar with the ins and outs of the law but I’m definitely ok with the fact that he was jailed. There were plenty of students there who were in the same emotionally charged situation and did not become violent.
