2013

On 12 November 2011, we encouraged the masses (ahead of 2012) to confront the Nigerian government against fuel price increment aka Occupy Nigeria like Occupy London et al. 2012 was a year of death here and there. A year that famous pastors had the effrontery to compete with private jets. 2012 was also the year that we strongly disagreed with a governor we used to classify as the best governor in Nigeria.

Liking someone does not mean that you should not disagree with him or her and neither should he always assume that he is absolutely right all the time. Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State did four things that we disliked in 2012 but we took him up on two issues. We refrained from taking him up on the last issue because we ran out of patience.

We have never met Fashola but we cannot claim not to have met someone very close to him at a time that Fashola never thought of governing Lagos State. We have always admired the woman because we noticed that she is a rare gem. If a man is lucky to be married to a woman like Dame Emmanuella Abimbola Fashola, he should thank his stars. He may even sing ‘Mo So Rire’ by Paul Play Dairo or 'Emmanuella' by Ofori Amponsah.

Fashola seems to have good women around him. Neither have we met Lagos deputy governor Mrs Joke Orelope-Adefulire but she did a lot to protect women and children in Lagos State, especially when she was a commissioner. However, our likeness for these women did not stop us from disagreeing with Fashola. What has Fashola in store for Lagosians in 2013? Please ask him! We hope it would be less sorrow for Lagosians.

If you have never travelled to Lagos State, we can authoritatively tell you that it is a lovely city. In the days of yore, we used to spend our holidays on Badagry beach. Very few people bothered to visit Badagry beach at the time probably because they preferred Bar Beach. We never knew how lucky we were because terrorists did not exit in Nigeria then, apart from coup plotters. Neither was kidnappers holding families to ransom.

It is almost unbelievable to know that Epe town has been without electricity for about three years. It is unfair and wicked to keep people in darkness for so long. Power Holding Corporation of Nigeria (PHCN) does not care because most people contribute money to buy transformers in order to bail them out of darkness rather than ‘force’ PHCN to fix energy problems. The Ministry of Power should intervene ASAP.
Jan 2012: Occupy Ministry Of Petroleum; Occupy NNPC; Occupy Aso Rock…
Occupy Lekki: Robin Hood Toll Fees
Makoko Demolition: 20,000 Homeless
Makoko Demolition: 20,000 Homeless (2)

When I said that our civilisation was going to face challenges in next few years, the internet was one of the things I was alluding to because a lot had been said that one has to be very careful with. It is a very useful medium but a lot can happen there. They can remove your head and put the head of your wife and put somebody’s hand on top of you. And this, unfortunately, is a minority. It is a very useful medium and I think if it’s been used for the development of humanity for which it is intended, things will be better.
