74-year-old Anna Hazare is India’s foremost anti-corruption activist. The Gandhian campaigner has agreed to end his hunger strike tomorrow at 10 am, after 13 days of fasting; in order to make the Indian parliament and government accept a tougher anti-corruption Lokpal bill. According to media reports, ‘the Standing Committee would consider Anna's three demands’.

Hazare was initially arrested by Delhi police and detained in Tihar jail ahead of his peaceful demonstration through a planned fast. Almost two weeks ago, his thousands of supporters converged outside Tihar jail until he was out of detention. Humble Kisan Baburao Hazare aka Anna Hazare was a flower seller before he joined the army at the age of 23.

Hazare resolved to turn the village around. He planned his moves carefully. He took a vow of celibacy, so the need to provide for a family would never distract him from his goal. He remained in the army for another dozen years to qualify for a pension, so he would never be in material want. Then finally in 1977 he returned home for good, and began the task of redeeming the village.

British Tabloids and Nigeria Bomb Blast

Defence correspondent of the Evening Standard, Robert Fox criticized the 'publication' of British tabloids because the bombing of the United Nations building in (Abuja) Nigeria was not published on the front page of today’s newspapers. The bomb was detonated yesterday by a suicide bomber from the terrorist group Boko Haram. 18 people were killed and several people were injured.

Fox was one of the 'previewers' on Sky News 'press preview' last night. Another 'previewer' explained that the Jos massacres in Nigeria were sometimes misreported with one-sided information. Due to technical communication problems, it was not always easy for journalists to cross-check facts.

Nevertheless, defunct NTAi (Sky Channel 202) was a satellite TV station owned by the Nigerian government. It used to broadcast news and programmes like the National Assembly debates. Should it remain off air?
