Happy New Year 2011

It is sad that some people in Abuja, Bayelsa, Plateau, Borno and Oyo States in Nigeria are living in fear and may not be able to celebrate the New Year 2011.

Last Christmas Eve, Jos, the Plateau State capital was rocked with bomb blasts and some Christians could not celebrate Christmas but grief. Other explosions occurred in Borno and Bayelsa States. A Muslim fanatic group later claimed that it was responsible for the Jos bomb blasts.

The latest bomb explosion in Abuja, that killed four people, is likely to make more people wonder if Nigeria is ‘safe’ at the moment because of ‘constant’ bomb blasts. The State Security Service (SSS) was active in military regimes. Is the SSS well funded under civilian regimes?

In 2010, it was baffling to see President Goodluck Jonathan appoint 'Economic Advisers' without appointing a Counter-Terrorism Advisor. Have they improved the economy? Why didn't the 'economic advisers' tell the president that buying three new presidential jets was outrageous and selfish while the masses lived in penury?

The fracas that took place 'during' a local government congress of the People’s Democratic Party, last Thursday, led to the death of a few people including the killing of Lateef Salako aka Eleweomo. He was the sacked chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Oyo State. Eleweomo did not know that he would not celebrate his 58th birthday on earth, with a planned housing-warming party.

Last October, I said it was a pity that the producer of a BBC documentary did not travel to Oyo State in order to see how important the NURTW was in the election process, compared with Lagos State. Some people probably thought: What does she know and who is she to make such a comparison?

Last June, a former Governor of Oyo State, Chief Lam Adesina warned that care should be taken toward the 2011 elections, so that Oyo State does not revert to the wild wild west (www) of 1962; where political massacres were the norm. Did anybody take Adesina seriously? Can Oyo State really escape another www?

May God give the families left behind by the dead people in Abuja – the Federal Capital Territory, Plateau, Borno and Oyo States, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss of their loved ones? Amen! R.I.P gif from Minti.

The Bible: Matthew 26:52: Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
