Coldest Christmas in 100 years

No, I’m not going to ‘discuss’ The Coldest Winter Ever (1999) by Sister Souljah, The Coldest Winter (2005) film or The Coldest Winter: America and the Korean War (2007) by journalist David Halberstam; which was published after Halberstam died in a car crash at the age of 73.

British meteorologists, the print and electronic media gave the masses enough weather warning because this winter is likely to be the coldest in a century. A lot of people had the opportunity to do their Xmas shopping earlier than expected. In fact, some entrepreneurs count how many winters their businesses survived in order to celebrate success.

Some people prefer to shop 'late' because it could be cheaper, but is it worth it with the cold breeze and hassle? The best thing to do right now is probably online shopping, if you are yet to shop at all. At least, it will arrive on your doorstep. It should be delivered, even in a severe weather condition.

It was upsetting for most people that had their flights cancelled at airports because of heavy snow and other bad weather conditions. Some airports were reopened while some remain closed. Of course, Christmas cards and presents by post may be delayed and we are likely to have the coldest Christmas in 100 years.

The Neighbours from Hell

Some months ago, I went to see a young couple in London. I had never seen them so unhappy since they got married. It was obvious that they had problems with most of their neighbours. What the envious neighbours did to them was probably worse than the Neighbors from Hell animated TV series.

The neighbours that used to help them push their old ‘banger’ cars up the hill became perplexed with enormous envy and stopped greeting them as soon as they bought brand new cars. In modern Britain, I never 'knew' that such type of jealousy existed until a gang of neighbours launched a campaign of calumny against the couple.

The couple worked extremely hard to become entrepreneurs during the recession. It was risky but they took the plunge to succeed. What most people may not realize is that, the more successful you become, the more enemies of ‘questionable characters’, you are likely to accumulate.
