The Senior Special Assistant to President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Affairs Dr Doyin Okupe took responsibility of the false information that abducted Government Girls Secondary girls in Chibok, Borno state were released because he was misinformed by the military. Okupe, a medical doctor cum politician was ‘bold’ enough to admit the blunder while most officials were known to pile such mistake on the media rather than issue unreserved apology to the masses.
We were supposed to believe the military which is not supposed to play politics or administer any form of propaganda on issues associated to terrorism and abduction. Over 100 school girls were abducted by Boko Haram terrorists but 15 girls allegedly escaped and gained freedom on their own accord. A CNN correspondent said that some of the girls that were kidnapped last year were raped and had babies for their kidnappers; may the same fate not befall any of these ‘freshly’ kidnapped school girls.
Senior Special Assistant of ‘Misinformation’ Okupe learnt a lesson that caused him a high level of embarrassment and he might prefer to shut his gob rather than issue sentimental statements in future as a spin doctor. Of course, he would not like to reveal the identity of the military liar although he should because such a liar should not get away with it as parents of missing daughters are crying behind closed doors.
Such parents are experiencing their ‘hours of darkness’ in 2014 while some Nigerians telephoned You Decide presenter Dr Segun Johnson on BEN TV and said they were experiencing ‘hours of darkness’ in Nigeria due to lack of electricity supply for over two weeks. A caller actually accused a top government official of taking bribe before transformers were installed in some affected areas. On the show, Godson Azu, a political analyst and campaign strategist promised to see the government official in order to address the allegation of bribery and corruption at the Federal Ministry of Power. Can you believe that 1986 was the proposed deadline for lack of electricity supply?
Moreover, the Minister of Power Professor Chinedu Nebo attributed “spiritual warfare” to problems facing Nigeria but what has that got to do with electricity supply? Is that why Aso Rock Presidential Villa is not powered by renewable energy e.g., Solar energy? Would it not save the government a lot of bills and encourage solar energy in Nigeria? For instance, the money used to buy gold-plated iPhone gifts for guests who attended the President’s adopted daughter’s wedding ceremony could have been used to buy transformers although the bride received over 60 cars as wedding gift; which means that the presidency can afford to buy electrical transformers especially at taxpayers’ expense.
