The ‘Governor’ of Nigerian Governors (7)

By Matthew Mahmood

The chairman of PDP is going to face another problem because there’s going to be crisis and if care is not taken, he is going to be removed. They are going to scatter them and cause confusion between him and the president. Most of these governors that are being sacked are going to join hands together to form another party. A new party will emerge which will be more powerful than PDP. Not APC! Gov. Rotimi Amaechi’s current challenges will create more problems in this country.
Primate Theophilus Olabayo

Those are the words of a prominent Nigerian seer on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State in a Vanguard interview, published on 30 June 2013. The CIA allegedly predicted the end of Nigeria by 2015 yet the political madness in Rivers State has not stopped as Pro-President Goodluck Jonathan and first lady demonstrators 'attacked' four Northern governors that travelled to pay a solidarity visit to Amaechi in Rivers State after the impeachment imbroglio.

Seers were dubbed prophets of doom in Nigeria because they often gave bad news like the media. Prophet Marcus Tibetan predicted that President Jonathan may spend seven years in prison after his tenure. Was God trying to tell the President to change his ‘evil’ ways and leave Amaechi alone? He has failed to tackle corruption. He is likely to be put on trial after his tenure for running a corrupt government. Does he think about his future?

A newspaper publisher and former Governor of Abia State Dr Orji Uzor Kalu wrote an open letter to Amaechi titled 'Orji Kalu’s Frank Letter To Governor Amaechi'. Kalu has a right to his opinion on the Jonathan and Amaechi battle although some sections of the letter strongly suggested that Amaechi should allow the Jonathans to cow him and give in… In a Punch newspaper interview, Kaju previously said, “I’m neither for Amaechi nor for President Jonathan”. The content of the letter was neither here nor there. He kept a 'neutral' stance.

The letter is discouraging to a man who has been severely bullied, harassed and intimidated by people that are not better than him simply because two Northerners selected him as their proposed Vice-Presidential candidate. Jonathan would prefer Amaechi not to contest the 2015 election and support his re-election bid.

While in active politics, we would like to remind Kalu that he never took advice when he fought with people. Did he not disagree with former President Olusegun Obasanjo? Kalu preferred to lambast his opponents publicly and later ‘prostrate’ behind closed doors with a particular member of his family. We are very sorry to say that Amaechi is not like that.

When a person has a serious problem, all sorts of people would assume that they have a solution, pass direct insults and offer degrading antidotes. Amaechi should remain focused and not allow his problems with the President and Our ‘imbecile’ Lady of Aso Rock a la Our Lady of Apostles to run him down. If Kalu were in Amaechi’s shoes, he would have given the Jonathans sleepless nights by now. Kalu is not ready to tolerate nonsense from anybody and neither 'would' he run from trouble. Amaechi has never insulted the Jonathans as ‘Jesus’ Patience Jonathan's devotee Evans Bapakaye Bipi wrongly claimed.

Rivers PDP and the Presidency called for the probe of Amaechi on the Rivers State crisis. May we ask why the PDP/Presidency does not deem it fit to call for the probe and prosecution of Mrs Patience Jonathan and the Minister of State for Education Nyesom Wike for orchestrating the impeachment saga in Rivers State? Mrs Jonathan is not immune to prosecution like her husband, the President.

Security officers guarding Amaechi were withdrawn without notice. Amaechi may need to alert the United Nations of his political problems. It is obvious that the Presidency used the military and paramilitary forces against him in order to endanger his life. For the third time, Amaechi is concerned about his safety. The loyal members of the State Security Service (SSS) should resist and expose any plot against Amaechi since political assassination is the norm in a country which lacks forensic evidence.

Most Amaechi supporters were formerly the supporters of Goodluck Jonathan when Jonathan had a battle with the powerful cabal that did not want him to become the President of Nigeria. Jonathan has forgotten all that. This is not a battle against the presidency but a battle against injustice and the bad future of Nigeria. If we all fold our arms and allow President Jonathan and his cohorts to ruin the country beyond international recognition, our great grandchildren may spit on our graves.

The Northern governors who went to visit Amaechi called for the removal of Rivers State Commissioner of Police Joseph Mbu. The House of Representatives held a debate on the removal of Mbu. Associations like the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, Rivers women and students also called for Mbu’s removal because it is widely believed that he was used by the Presidency against Amaechi. Amaechi previously explained that he has no problem with the Police Force although he has a personal problem with Mbu. Recently, the police fired tear gas into the Government House with flimsy excuses while Amaechi was around. It is now obvious why Mbu must go…
