The Fumble Arena (aka ‘Orita Fumble’ lyric in the X-rated Afro Hip Hop track Damino Damoche remix by Skailey ft Zee World Tentebo) brought Obafaiye Shem, the Lagos State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) into the limelight. He was suspended after he ‘wobbled’ and fumbled in a notorious interview on Channels TV simply because he did not know the NSCDC website off head and said his Oga (boss) at the top knew it.
NSCDC aka 'My Oga at the Top' is currently the funniest joke among Nigerians on the internet. Some people were photographed wearing various ‘My Oga at the Top’ tee-shirts and DJ Ziggy did a rib cracking remix of ‘My Oga at the Top’ video on You Tube. How far will the famous ‘Oga at the top’ joke go? Nigerians have reacted to the shabby way they are governed.
At least, Obafaiye Shem did not lie that he suffered from amnesia or dyslexia in order to defend himself on air. He should have told the viewers to Google NSCDC. His blunder strongly suggested that he was not the best person for the post that he was holding and the type of bad leadership we have in Nigeria.
It will be recalled that when Professor Dora Akunyili was the Minister of Information and Communication, she told BEN TV that the ministry did not have a website. She had to sort out one in 2008 therefore the history of Nigerian government websites had always been a comedy of errors. How many Nigerian government ministries and parastatal have modern websites? You can hardly phone most ministries and receive good customer service. You may not even get through.
The great police spin at Ikeja Police College was a success but that does not mean that we would finally stop calling for the resignation of the Minister of Police Affairs and the closure of the ministry until 2015. We hope the minister is aware that the last books in the college library were last ordered in the 70s according to a female journalist and columnist. The minister needs to spend some time on Amazon et al. We do understand that he has a lot of work to do. He is forced to do the jobs left undone by his predecessors who embezzled government funds. In every ministry, there is usually an ‘Oga at the top’.
The foremost ‘Oga at the top’ is President Goodluck Jonathan. Put him or his wife on a live interview and ask them to name major websites of Nigerian ministries and parastatal. You may then conclude that Obafaiye Shem was not a ‘sham’ after all. At least he was able to mention part of it although he did not know the rest. Shem is a graduate of two universities in Nigeria and Mr President is a PhD holder. Shem may then shout, ‘I don try now since I am not the President. Those types of questions should be for ‘Oga at the top’. The First Lady would probably tell Channels TV that she is currently
recuperating from an illness and such questions could generate a brainwave. After all, she was not elected into office but she is ready to build a reckless ‘Mission House’ at the staggering cost of N4billion while the masses wallow in penury.
Jonathan said he does not owe anybody the slightest apology for giving fresh pardon to political vagabonds like his mentor Alamieyeseigha. He thought he could sit and fart on Nigerians from Aso Rock Presidential Villa until the US government threatened to cut Aid and give sanctions to some Nigerian officials in reaction to the criminal pardon for embezzlers. Even Transparency International was against the pardon of political robbers.
Instead of medical doctor cum spin doctor Doyin Okupe to start planning how to dump Jonathan and salvage his political career ahead of 2015, he decided to launder Jonathan’s image by comparing the Presidential pardon to that of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Dim Chukwuemeka Odimiegwu Ojukwu who were not thieves. We hope Jonathan’s men are aware that Aso Rock needs to be vacant by 2015.
Jonathan went to the 12th Session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) as a trouble shooter and not as a good President. He should have boldly told the 'landlords' of Nigeria in the corridors of power that he would not get involve in the OIC controversy as a weak leader but nay. Boko Haram terrorists were correct to say that Nigeria is an Islamic state. Members of OIC are classified as Islamic countries. Nigeria joined the OIC through former military dictator Ibrahim Gbadamasi Babangida in 1986. The truth is very bitter and the sooner every Nigerian can accept specific facts, the better it may be for everyone. Jonathan has overstayed his welcome as the foremost ‘Oga at the top’.
