Was Fashola Right Or Wrong? (2)

Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola

The Nigerian Defence Headquarters denied that the Federal Government deployed the army to intimidate ‘fuel subsidy removal’ protesters aka Occupy Nigeria in Lagos State and claimed that the Lagos State Government knew of the deployment of soldiers within Lagos State.

According to Vanguard, ‘Yerima said soldiers on the streets of Lagos during the protests were from the Special Task Force, named: “Operation MESA”, that was set up and sponsored by the Lagos State Government before the protests.’

Lagos State Government has renounced the allegation. It will be recalled that after soldiers were seen in strategic areas of Lagos, Governor Fashola held a press conference and said, “I therefore urge the reconsideration of the decision to deploy soldiers and implore the President and Commander-in-Chief to direct their withdrawal from our streets”…

Fashola should not be complaining of military presence in Lagos State because he should have known that the soldiers were coming. Fashola is in his last tenure and does not have much to lose. Maybe that’s why he warned PENGASSAN. There was no need for him to deliver a speech on the ‘militarization’ of Lagos State after ‘dining’ with the devil without a long spoon.

'Lagosians', the civil society and a few famous Nigerians protested the occupation of Lagos State by the military. The statement from the Defence Headquarters must have ‘shocked’ a lot of people. Once again, was Fashola was right or wrong?

The City of London Corporation won a high court eviction case to remove Occupy London protesters from St Paul’s Cathedral churchyard. The anti-capitalist protesters intend to appeal the High Court ruling at the Court of Appeal. They have camped outside St Paul’s since 15 October 2011. The struggle continues…

He refused permission to appeal, but the protesters have until 4pm next Friday to apply directly to the Court of Appeal and the City has agreed not to enforce the orders until then.

Some self-published writers criticized the Penguin Group self-publishing service called Book Country in their blogs. The bloggers classified it as a 'rip-off' and 'vanity press' because it does not include book editing or marketing etcetera for writers.

Of course, upcoming writers that are hell-bent of seeing their books in print will not 'listen' to the critics. At the same time, it may not be too late for the Penguin Group to reconstruct its self-publishing service.

On pages such as this one, they claim that writers will “earn 70% on your sales when priced at $2.99 or higher on all channels.” This is an extremely disingenuous claim, as it is not 70% of your cover price, but 70% of the money Book Country receive from retailers.
