The Resignation of Rebekah Brooks

Rebekah Brooks: AP
OMG! Chief executive officer, Rebekah Brooks, 43, finally resigned yesterday from News International, the British subsidiary of News Corporation and intends to clear her dented media image as the defunct News of the World’s most ‘dangerous’ woman. Brooks aka the ‘Witch of Wapping’ resigned after 22 years of climbing 'through the ranks'.

In the House of Commons debate on the phone-hacking scandal, Labour opposition leader, Ed Miliband argued that Rebekah Brooks should not remain employed while her colleagues were sacked, before she resigned. He called for her resignation days before she resigned.

Her resignation was previously not accepted by her boss, media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Murdoch has apologized to the family of murdered teenager Milly Dowler; whose phone was allegedly hacked and also apologized to the nation for the phone-hacking scandal. The scandal led to Murdoch pulling out of ‘News Corporation’s bid to buy the 61 per cent of BSkyB it doesn’t own…’

Former British prime minister, Gordon Brown accused News International of using 'criminals' to access his family data. The Sun newspaper denied the allegation. Brown regrets not setting up an inquiry into the phone-hacking scandal during his tenure although Prime Minister David Cameron intends to. About 4,000 phone-hacking allegations led to the closure of the News of the World after 168 years of publication last Sunday.

Miliband v Cameron: He just doesn't get it!

Prime Minister David Cameron and Labour leader Ed Miliband

The House of Commons was thrown into a circus of laughter last Wednesday; especially when Ed Miliband said that David Cameron did not get it and should not have hired his former spin doctor Andy Coulson. It was more or less Ed Miliband confronting David Cameron at the phone-hacking debate. The Speaker of the House of commons, John Bercow told those that could not keep quiet that they could leave the chamber. Most live television viewers were probably laughing at home therefore it was 'normal' for MPs to laugh too. Even the children’s minister was told off by the speaker.

Mr Speaker: Order. Mr David—[ Interruption. ]Order. Mr David—[ Interruption. ] Order. I say to the Children’s Minister: try to calm down and behave like an adult, and if you cannot—if it is beyond you—leave the Chamber and we will manage without you. Mr David Ward.

Q2. [65522] Mr David Ward (Bradford East) (LD): Thank you, Mr Speaker. What a case of the—[ Interruption. ]

Mr Speaker: Order. This is intolerable behaviour as far as the public—[ Interruption. ] No, it is not funny. Only in your mind, Mr Loughton, is it funny. It is not funny at all; it is disgraceful.
