Was Obasanjo Dribbled to the Church?

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo

The Ebora Owu aka the Oracle of Ota, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo dissociated himself from Bode George’s Robin Hood or heroic exit from Kirikiri Maximum Prison by telling newsmen that he was tricked to the Church Thanksgiving Service in Lagos, Nigeria.

Obasanjo suddenly disowned Bode George and the ‘debutant’ celebration of criminality with immediate effect; by issuing a press conference as per “Lagos Boy yi o ma ni koba mi o!” (Yoruba Meaning: May this Lagos boy not land me in trouble!)

Obasanjo realized that he had committed a blunder and probably recalled the chorus of Ebenezer Obey’s song, “Oun ti o da koda…” (Meaning: whatever is bad, is not just bad but horrendous.) His primary concern was how the International Community would look at him as a diplomat and former president of Nigeria. He was 'appointed Special Envoy to the Great Lakes region by United Nations Secretary General Ban-ki Moon, December 2008.'

The church service was planned ahead of George’s release from prison. Obasanjo received an invitation. He must have known that it would be a flamboyant event with people in high places like him; especially some key members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), since George is a fellow PDP chieftain. The allegation that the PDP wanted President Goodluck Jonathan to pardon Bode George was 'damaging' to the integrity of PDP. Jonathan has not made such a declaration for the ex-convict.

Opposition parties, activists, writers, journalists and bloggers went 'haywire' to denounce the recent show of shame and Obasanjo had to save himself from disgrace. After all, Obasanjo was not bundled to the church service by force, neither was he was drugged and kidnapped like the foiled 1984 saga of Umaru Dikko in England.

It is up to the masses to accept Baba Obasanjo’s version of the wild celebration of PDP’s successful great loot, from the treasury, through Bode George, of about N100 billion. Was Obasanjo dribbled to the church? He did not even stagger to the church.

News reports that the ex-convict boasted that the PDP would cause a “tsunami”, in order to intimidate opposition parties in Lagos State, showed that a PDP leopard like Bode George has not changed his spots. The church service may have been a waste of time because George is yet to adhere to the warning of the venerable pastor to “shun greed, thuggery and violence.”

According to the Bode George Movement, Bode George is expected to contest the presidential election in 2015. A woman phoned News Punch (BEN TV – Sky Channel 184) last week to discuss Bode George’s loot that was not recovered by the government. Would the loot not enable the PDP to support Bode George in 2015? No wonder the Central Intelligence Agency predicted that Nigeria may disintegrate by 2015. If care is not taken the PDP will ruin Nigeria.
