JUNE 21: FOR FATHERS ONLY

A lot of people in the UK, USA and Canada will celebrate Father’s Day today (June 21st) but in Australia and New Zealand it will be celebrated on the 6th of September. In fact, 52 countries will celebrate Father’s Day this year. I wish fathers a wonderful day. No nagging please! 'Whatever' fathers do they should to be tolerated on Father’s Day with gifts et al. What makes a dad is a poem by an unknown poet.

What Makes a Dad

God took the strength of a mountain,
The majesty of a tree,
The warmth of a summer sun,
The calm of a quiet sea,
The generous soul of nature,
The comforting arm of night,
The wisdom of the ages,
The power of the eagle's flight,
The joy of a morning in spring,
The faith of a mustard seed,
The patience of eternity,
The depth of a family need,
Then God combined these qualities,
When there was nothing more to add,
He knew His masterpiece was complete,
And so,

He called it … Dad

The untimely death of a lawyer cum broadcaster, Janet Buerki Narh was a shock to the African community in the UK. According to her colleague Ayoub Mzee on the current affairs programme Dialogue, Narh died after a brief illness on Saturday 20th of June. Apart from presenting and producing Women’s Hour on BEN TV (Sky Channel 184), she also anchored a children’s programme and the political programme News Punch which was very interesting with commentators like Dele Ogun of Ogun@Law. The black British woman of Ghanaian origin was also a women’s rights activist and will be a great loss to African women in the Diaspora. May her soul rest in peace, Amen.
