Shocked Governor Amaechi blocked by the police
Governor Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State was denied access by the Nigerian police to his private residence in the Government House in Port Harcourt, his commissioner for information, Mrs Ibim Semenitari, said.
According to her, Amaechi and no fewer than 70 visitors were denied access to his private residence in the Government House when he wanted to enter through the Old GRA road.

Rivers State Commissioner of Police Mbu Joseph Mbu is still causing trouble in Rivers State although the National Assembly approved his redeployment from Rivers State. If the Government House had only one entrance, where would Amaeachi have spent the night? He had to take another entrance to the Government House. Who is the Governor of Rivers State Amaechi or Mbu? Can Amaechi order the blockade of Mbu’s official residence? This type of nonsense and abuse of power can only happen in ‘lawless’ countries like Nigeria.
The Rivers State Commissioner for Information had to issue a second press release on the safety of Amaechi. When will Mbu leave Rivers State because he is making the state ungovernable for Amaechi? The Inspector General of Police should redeploy Mbu with immediate effect and not wait for him to incite murder or unwarranted bloodshed.
Governor Amaechi should take his safety seriously and look for alternative ways to protect himself at this dangerous stage of his battle with Mbu and the Aso Rockers. It would be recalled that his police guards were withdrawn on the orders of Mbu and the Government House blockage occurred after Amaechi accused Mbu of plotting to assassinate him.
To make the matter worse, the acting Minister of Education Ezebunwo Nyesom Wike said that he would frustrate the new PDP in Rivers State which Amaechi belongs to. Shouldn’t the State Security Service invite Wike for a thorough interrogation since the police are powerless? As for the Police IG, is he waiting for Mbu to commit murder, takeover Rivers State or move into the Government House before sacking him? Time will tell!

Natural gas shall not be flared or vented after 31st December, 2012, in any oil and gas production operation, block or field, onshore or offshore, or gas facility, except under exceptional and temporary circumstances”, said a new draft of the PIB seen by Reuters.

Two journalists with the The Guardian of London, John Vidal and his cameraman simply identified as Naoh were
yesterdayarrested by men of the Joint Task Force (JTF)The NigeriaCurrent gathered that they were arrested allegedly for taking the photos of huge plume of gas fare at Eleme, in Eleme Local Government of Rivers State.

The journalists were later released by the JTF. According to the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR), ‘Nigeria is losing over 4.9 million dollars (more than N735 million) daily to gas flaring’. That is all DPR cares about and not the environmental effects of gas flaring.
The Petroleum Industry Bill is supposed to outlaw gas flaring in Nigeria but why is the bill yet to be passed into law by the National Assembly? Gas flaring has unbearable effects on some people in the Niger Delta:
They are also forced to live with constant noise, heat and light that can lead to sleep deprivation which can degenerate into systemic insomnia. Since flaring involves carbon dioxide and sulphur outputs, in the longer term the heart and lungs can be affected leading to bronchitis, silicosis, sulphur poisoning of the blood, and cardiac complications, said a Port Harcourt doctor, Nabbs Imegwu.
“Extreme long-term exposure can predispose one to, or cause, skin cancer,” he added.

Time to Stop Toying With the PIB (I)
Last Wednesday, President Goodluck Jonathan sacked nine cabinet ministers because they were close to members of the new PDP yet he could not replace the sacked ministers immediately with new ministers who are usually screened by the senate. A slow President indeed! He sacked some of the best ministers and retained most of the 'bad' ones. Round of applause!
Ministers are not appointed on merit in Nigeria. You don’t need experience in your field because you may serve in a different field where you won’t know what to do other than to slow the nation down. All you need is connection aka ‘long legs’ in the corridors of power and be a graduate. Gbam!
