The Australian Prime Minister Julia Gillard was ‘attacked’ by almost 200 Aboriginal protesters last Thursday in Canberra as she came out of a restaurant where a ceremony was held to commemorate Australia Day. Gillard was rescued from the angry mob by bodyguards and security officers.
While dragged toward the car by her security guard, Gillard lost a shoe in the scuffle, which has been handed to an aboriginal elder named Pat Eatock. Gillard was asked by Eatock to collect her shoe within a week or it would be sold on eBay.
However, the dark blue wedge — a size 36 Midas — was returned to the prime minister's office late Friday.
A shoe purported to be Gillard's reportedly fetched bids of £1400 Friday before it was removed from sale.

Yesterday, the pandemonium led to the resignation of Gillard’s media adviser Tony Hodges for giving someone a ‘tip-off’ that opposition leader Tony Abbott would be at the ceremony. 'Leaked information' allegedly led the protesters to the restaurant.
The protesters actually targeted Tony Abbott for suggesting that ‘a 40-year-old Aboriginal tent embassy was no longer relevant and should be dismantled. Activists at the embassy then shifted their protests to a nearby function being attended by Abbott and Gillard'.
The protesters are the indigenous Australians who want Aboriginal sovereignty in Australia where they constitute about 2% or 400,000 of the population. Aborigines should not be treated as second class citizens in their country.
