Kayode Fayemi: Victory at Last!

Today is a significant day for Dr Kayode Fayemi because he finally won a gubernatorial battle that initially stopped him from becoming the Governor of Ekiti State in 2007 and 2009. The Court of Appeal in Kwara State, Nigeria declared that the Action Congress of Nigeria candidate, Fayemi won the 2007 governorship election in Ekiti State therefore Segun Oni is no longer the Governor of Ekiti state.

The wild drama in Ekiti after the 2009 rerun election left most voters gob-smacked when the electoral commissioner, Madam Ayoka Adebayo ran way and refused to release the election results. She later came out of hiding and declared the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Oni as the winner of the election. Victory did not come to Fayemi easily because he legally fought like a wounded lion.

Before the rerun election, the Governor of Osun State Olagunsoye Oyinlola was caught on audio tape boasting that PDP must win the election, even if the election must be rigged at all cost but later denied the statement. Did Oyinlola really win the elections in Osun State under the PDP? Did all the PDP Governors really win elections in Nigeria?

The PDP machinery of political rigmarole and election rigging has been brought to shame and public enlightenment. The PDP could still rig elections and most of the allegations against the party that wants to remain in power for 50 years, until some members are great grandparents with walking sticks, are most likely to be true. The decision of the Court of Appeal was like a big surprise to a lot of people.

The decision of the Court of Appeal (in Ibadan) was reserved in 2009; otherwise the embattled politician Rauf Aregbesola could have been vindicated in the Osun State governorship saga. What will be the decision of the Court of Appeal in Aregbesola v Oyinlola? For assassinated dogged fighters like Dipo Dina of Ogun State, victory was too late and could not be achieved. According to a Yoruba proverb, Eni to ku ni ti e gbe, like the Latin phrase Ubi vita, ibi spes or Where there is life, there is hope.

Gbola Oba’s loyalty to Fayemi

Gbola Oba was a programme presenter on BEN TV (Sky Channel 184) for some years. He is now a media consultant and has never hidden his loyalty to Kayode Fayemi for a specific reason. He once told viewers that Fayemi saw him living in a bad condition, in an undisclosed European country. Out of pity, Fayemi helped Oba… Oba later travelled to the UK and became a broadcaster. Some Nigerian state governors prefer to use their loyalists as special assistants and press secretaries.

Tinie Tempah: Nigeria’s Hottest UK Rapper

Who needs American gangsta rap when we can listen to a nice boy from Plumstead?

21 year old Patrick Chukwuem Okogwu Jr. aka Tinie Tempah is of Nigerian parentage. The Plumstead lad is currently making waves as a famous UK rapper. His duet with Eric Turner is ‘written in the stars’. It is cool and I like the chorus.

He came into the limelight with ‘pass out’. ‘Pass out’ was a big hit to the extent that it had more than one remix e.g. the Tinie Tempah ft late Kaka Bhaniawala – Pass Out Bhangra remix and Miss Pooja & Tinie Tempah – Desi Jatt vs Pass Out (remix).

"Pass Out" duly went to the top spot, the eighth single by a solo UK rapper to do so since Dizzee Rascal broke the glass ceiling in 2008.

'Disc-Overy', his debut album should win nominations if not awards because Tinie Tempah is a rapper to watch out for. ‘Invincible’ ft Kelly Rowland is a new song. 'Frisky' ft Labrinth is romantic… It will be recalled that Tinie Tempah did a remix of Lil Wayne’s ‘Lollipop’ in 2008.
