Esther Ogunleke, Vocal Slender and a friend
Singer Eric Obuh aka Vocal Slender and Esther Ogunleke became famous after they were featured in the BBC2 documentary Welcome to Lagos. According to Nairaland, they are now in London. The BBC and TV producer Will Anderson were ‘heavily’ criticized for the documentary.
A lot of people may not know that Anderson had a background in Anthropology and that could justify his motive for featuring slums and the less privileged. At times, the truth can be bitter… Some Nigerians felt that the BBC 'picked' on Lagos out of several slums in the world. In fact, the Nigerian Government complained to the BBC.
On the Magazine Show last Saturday (BEN TV – Sky Channel 184), Femi Amusan said that Vocal Slender will appear on the next edition of the programme. Slender shot his new musical video in the UK last week. Well, Vocal Slender and Esther, it is no longer Welcome to Lagos but Welcome to London.
Truth hurts. And its for both sides. Nigerian ‘elites’ pretend they do not know of intense suffering in their domain. The British propaganda apparatus – BBC – also knew what it was doing.Even though Lagos is almost entirely a slum, the context slant of their documentary was one-sided. They did it because they can. Of what use is a Nigerian government, talkless of her complain?
